Hunter Valley Cycle Trip

A 30 minute drive from Wanaka, this was an awesome 2 day mission with our (rental!) bikes up the Hunter Valley.

We started at the parking lot for Corner Peak and our plan was to cycle 70km up the Valley to Forbes Hut. The first 20km was on a beautiful gravel road alongside the Hawea Lake, which turned to single track at the lake head. The single track was epic but very slow going with multiple rover crossings. By the time we had got to 45km it was getting dark and we realised we definitely weren’t going to manage another 20km to get to Forbes hut, and we luckily found an unlocked hut closer to the river head. We stayed the night and headed out the way we came in the morning.

It took us about 5 hours each way.
